Biography

IMG_3099.jpeg

My name is Sanggyu Lee and I am a young South Korean artist graduate of Cardigan Mountain school and currently studying at Westminster School.

I love to paint in an impressionist style and many of my works are inspired by Claude Monet, and Vincent Van Gogh. I try to capture the essence of nature in my artworks, painting  the oceans.

I am particularly drawn to painting oceans because of the cheerful memories it brings up because my  hometown is located on the waterfront, and also helps me think about everything clearly. This has particularly been important for me as it helped me get through homesickness when I left home to go to a boarding school in the United States, leaving my parents behind. In the future, I would love to express what I really feel about certain  aspects of my life, and the environments through art.

Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, art has been a way for me to express my passions and frustrations, especially as I felt separated and alone at home during frequent quarantines.
